UK land and online bingo giant Gala Bingo awaits a decision today by Birmingham City’s licensing committee regarding its plans to launch a new bingo facility.

The Birmingham Mail is reporting Gala’s application shows four separate licenses being applied for at a single building. The Mail further says that none of the license applications mention bingo prompting Birmingham council representatives to say the company is trying to ‘circumvent the rules governing the maximum number of gaming machines.’

‘The premises would appear to be one composite whole divided up into four different areas,’ said the Mail’s report of the issue. ‘Facilities for the playing of bingo are not shown on the plans that form part of the application. Without such facilities the applicant could not be offering the principal activity for which they are applying and simply separating the premises artificially to enable them to offer the maximum number of machines, but without being able to comply with the terms of their license.’

The Mail speculates that Gala’s attempt at splitting up other Gala Bingo clubs in the region are an attempt to boost the amount of gambling machine numbers allowed at individual bingo premises.
