Why Canada Works This Way

Gambling in Canada is a provincial matter. Each province decides for itself what may be offered online and by whom, which is why the map looks so uneven.

For most of the last twenty years the answer everywhere was the same: one government site per province, and nothing else. British Columbia's PlayNow, Loto-Québec and Atlantic Lottery all date from that era, and all three still run genuine bingo.

Then Ontario opened a competitive market in April 2022, and Alberta followed on 13 July 2026. In those two provinces private operators can register, compete and advertise. Nowhere else has done it yet.

What that means when you are choosing a room

If you live in Ontario or Alberta, stick to the registered list. Both provinces publish a public directory, so verifying a site takes about thirty seconds.

If you live anywhere else, your province's own site is the only one covered by Canadian regulation. Offshore rooms will happily take your deposit, but you have no provincial protection, no dispute route and no guarantee your balance is safe.

What the Games Look Like

Canadian bingo leans towards 75 ball, the North American pattern game, rather than the 90 ball tickets UK players grew up with.

The government sites are a good illustration. PlayNow runs 75 ball rooms around the clock, including Suite 75 and Coast to Coast, and the Stardust room pools players from British Columbia and Manitoba so the prizes are worth chasing. Atlantic Lottery's iBingo includes a 75 ball Kitchen Party Bingo, and Loto-Québec runs its own networked bingo.

Bingo games are not bingo rooms

Plenty of Canadian casino sites that run no bingo at all still carry bingo-shaped games. Slingo, a bingo grid with a slot reel underneath, is the most common, and video or instant bingo titles sit alongside the slots at a lot of lobbies.

They are worth knowing about, but be clear on what they are not. There is no scheduled game, no chat host and no shared prize pot building as more players buy in. The Ontario and Alberta guides go into which is which.
