Alberta became the second Canadian province to let private operators compete. The bingo choice is small, but it is real and it is regulated.

What Changed in July 2026

Until this summer, Play Alberta was the only legal online gambling site in the province. On 13 July 2026 Alberta opened to private operators, following the model Ontario introduced in 2022.

As in Ontario, two bodies share the job. Alberta Gaming, Liquor and Cannabis (AGLC) is the regulator. The Alberta iGaming Corporation (AiGC) holds the operator agreements and publishes the directory of approved sites.

The province was candid about why it did this. AiGC's own figures estimate that around 70% of Alberta's online gambling was going to unregulated operators, and its stated goal is to move three quarters of that into the regulated market within two years.

What this means for bingo players

Twenty-odd sites went live on day one, and almost all of them are sportsbooks and casinos. Bingo was not the priority.

That is not surprising. Alberta has around 4.5 million people, and a bingo room needs a crowd to be any fun. The operators who have brought bingo are the ones who already run it elsewhere in Canada and can share the player pool and the platform.

The upside for Albertans is that this is a young market where operators are still competing hard for signups. The downside is that if you want a big, busy bingo room with a chat host, the choice is currently two sites.

Alberta Compared With Ontario

The two regulated markets look similar but differ in ways that matter.

Age. Alberta is 18+. Ontario is 19+.
Maturity. Ontario has had four years to build up 83 regulated sites. Alberta opened in July 2026 with fewer than 30.
Directory detail. Ontario's directory tags each site by product, so you can filter for bingo. Alberta's does not, which makes checking harder.
The government site. Ontario's OLG.ca sits outside the regulated market framework. Alberta's Play Alberta now competes inside it.

What they share is the important part: a registered site has been through a real standards process, your deposits are protected, and there is somewhere to complain if things go wrong.

Bingo Games at Alberta Casino Sites

Two sites run bingo. But bingo-shaped games appear far more widely, and in a market this new they may be all you find at your usual casino.

Video and instant bingo are single-player RNG games. A card, an instant draw, a paytable. No room, no chat, no shared jackpot.

Worth knowing while the market settles: in June 2026 Pragmatic Play said it is winding down its bingo vertical to concentrate on slots, live casino, crash and RNG. Pragmatic brought its certified content to Alberta in July, but bingo is not part of its future plans.
