The UKGC has announced new wagering rules that will take effect later this year. In an effort to combat problem gambling, limits have been placed on bingo wagering requirements.
December 19, 2025, all licensed UK operators will be required to cap wagering requirements at a maximum of 10 times the bonus amount. The UKGC stated that high wagering requirements can confuse consumers and encourage excessive gambling. This change will turn all licensed UK online casinos into “low wagering casinos,” supposedly creating a level playing field in terms of wagering for players.
Traditionally, bingo is a low-wagering game, so these new wagering limits dont really affect bingo games. There are many 1x,2x and 5x bingo wagering games. It does affect the slot games and slot bonuses offered at bingo venues.
How to Wager Smart
When claiming a bonus, always follow these strategies:
- Read the Terms and Conditions: Pay close attention to the wagering multiplier, game contributions, max bet limits, and bonus expiry date.
- Prioritise Low-Wagering Offers: If your goal is to withdraw winnings, focus on bonuses with low or no wagering requirements.
- Play High-Contribution Games: Stick to games that contribute 100% to the playthrough, which are usually slots.
- Watch Out for Hidden Traps: Be aware of maximum bet limits, game restrictions, and short expiration dates on bonuses.
Gamble Responsibly: Set strict deposit and loss limits, and remember that bonuses are for entertainment, not a guaranteed income.
What Are Wagering Requirements?
A wagering requirement, also known as playthrough or rollover, is a multiplier applied to a bonus. It dictates how much you need to bet before you can cash out winnings derived from bonus funds. Think of it as the small print lurking beneath the headline bonus amount. If you miss this detail, you could find yourself unable to access what you thought were your winnings.
For example:
- A £100 bonus with a 10x wagering requirement means you must bet £1,000 (£100 × 10) before withdrawing. (New Rules as of Dec 2025
- If you deposit £100 to receive a £100 bonus with a 30x requirement, you’ll need to place bets totalling £3,000 (£100 bonus x 30) before cashing out.
Online venues, whether bingo or slot-based, use wagering requirements to prevent bonus abuse (players withdrawing bonus cash without playing) and to comply with AML regulations.
